The Mind Museum: Quick Tour

As part of our course requirement last semester in ScieEd502, we have to discuss Field Trip as a teaching strategy and of course we have to experience it! After a lot of considerations (schedule, proximity, budget, and of course learnings), our class decided to have our Field Trip at The Mind Museum of Taguig City.

It was scheduled one Saturday, but since I have another subject to attend to and I badly needed to be present that day, I had my own field trip earlier than the scheduled class' field trip. This will be my first time visiting this Science Museum, and fortunately, I'm just by myself...

Here are some of the photographs of the exhibits that really captured my interest. For complete list of exhibits, refer to my references below.

MV Logos Hope: A Floating Library

MV Logos Hope

A few years back, there's this MV Doulos . It was the first time I've heard of a floating book fair that  was docked at Pier 15 in Manila. This was mentioned by my friends who were able to visit the place before it left the country.  I was surprised and my curiosity roused. I just kept it to myself, but I blame them for not informing me.
MV Logos Hope in Manila

Location: Gate 1, Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila
Schedule: February 17 - March 13, 2012 [Tues-Sat 10:00AM to 9:30PM; Sun 1:30PM to 9:30PM]
Entrance Fee: Php 20.00

Then last week, according to the news on national television, another floating book fair is docked at the same spot. It's called MV Logos Hope. Based on my research, MV Doulos already retired and was replaced by this bigger ship. MV Logos Hope is manned by at least 400 volunteers from different countries including the Philippines.

In the near future, there could be a dramatic decline in the demand for printed books. With the observed development of new technologies and the proliferation of a number of softwares and applications that enables electronic books, our vision for a paperless society could be a 100 percent reality.

In the meantime, we must enjoy these printed treasures before they are considered extinct.

A Glimpse of Baguio City

Seminar according to Wikipedia is, generally, a form of academic instruction, either at an academic institution or offered by a commercial or professional organization. This is the primary goal of a seminar, but the other side of it... well, most of the participants knows it...

According to a Taxi Driver the temperature was about 13 degrees Celsius, but January has the lowest average temperature in the whole year.

Baguio city was designated the Summer Capital of the Philippines. It is also known as the City of Pines.

The Association of Educators for Interrelated Research and Studies (AEIRS) with its main office at Parañaque City conducted the National Seminar-Workshop in Science Education with the theme, 'The Art of Teaching Science in the Classroom: A Key to Changes and Innovations in Science Education.' The venue was Baguio City!!!

I won't be blogging much about the seminar... but I want to express my gratitude to our department head for giving me the opportunity to attend such 'national-seminar'. I would also want to express my sincerest congratulations to the two speakers from the Philippine Normal University (PNU) who had given us new insights & perspective in the field of science education.

The Other Way of Learning Physics

October 26, 2011 [Wed] 2:00 PM
Enchanted Kingdom

"There is no royal road to Physics."

This is actually a derivative of an old adage, 'There's no royal road to knowledge.' In my point of view, there are two ways of learning physics by yourself. One is to solve problems in a not-so-easy mathematical argument. Second is to conquer your fear by experiencing physics by yourself. Either way you want - I would say, it's not easy but doing any of the two successfully is very rewarding!

Our semestral break (break here means work) is actually the time for computation of grades and doing paperworks. Literally, it's not actually a break for teachers... so, our Heads think of other ways of doing it in such a way that we will enjoy it as a break. From Plan A to Z... there's one plan that made it to realization... and that's going to Enchanted Kingdom!!! Yehey!!!
The Magic Starts Here
Enchanted Kingdom for us (Science Teachers) is not just a place for rides to enjoy... it is also a place for learning. There's actually a lot of Physics lessons here... As what I've mentioned earlier learning Physics here is not that easy - the great challenge is you have to overcome your fear.
Sa Baclaran meron din nito, mas mura pa hehehe

Magsimula daw ba sa bump car... hehehe

So, accomplishment na yung nakasakay ka jan?
