Holiday Fallacy

When I was just a student, I had a ridiculous idea about holidays and vacations. I thought that the students are the winners while the teachers are the losers. In my mind, 'siguro malungkot ang mga teachers pag holiday kasi wala silang mapapahiraapan.' 

I also believed during those times that being a teacher is so easy compared to being a student. A teacher is only concerned with one subject, but students are bombarded with 8 subjects or more plus the extra curricular activities. Inspite of my beliefs, my respect to my teachers never diminished. I looked up to them as experts and I tried hard to understand all of their lessons.

Now, I'm already a teacher. Am I experiencing karma?

As spiderman said, with great power comes great responsibilities, I therefore conclude that what I  thought when I was just a student were BIG FALLACIES of childhood. In reality, it's the other way around. To give you a proof, last year, one of my goals was to come up with at least one blog entry per month. I've tried my best, but wasn't able to. Let me justify myself.

First, I am not a writer, something good to write is not easy to think of...
Second, I'm not motivated by my internet connection... it's frustrating to pay to be connected but you're not.
Third, I'm super busy... let me enumerate my itinerary for a week.

Monday to Friday.
Morning: I teach in a high school. This is my full time job.
Afternoon: I work part time in a college in the North MM (with permit to teach, of course)

Saturdays.
I attend my masteral classes.

Sundays
I study a foreign language.

So contrary to what I believed when I was just a student, there's someone happier than the students when vacation or the holidays come - guess who?

In previous years I have observed that most of the oldies were hesitant to the extent of completely disregarding to accept technology. Sometimes we would hear their remarks, 'kayo na lang mag-aral nyan, matanda na kami.' But that is not the case today. You would have probably observed some old people with their eyeglasses and holding cellular phone, texting. Computer shops are not already dominated by youngster, but also some old people surfing the net, chatting, and even updating their status in some social networking sites. You would have probably encountered some techie oldies with ipad, ipod, iphone, or laptop somewhere.

Whether we like it or like, as others say, SOCIAL MEDIA has a great role in today's classroom. From the traditional way, our learning environment has already shifted to another level.
